Aonach Eagach Virtual Route
Mountain ridge - 360 Virtual Tour over this ridge in Glencoe Scotland
The Aonach Eagach is a rocky ridge lying to the north of Glen Coe in the Scottish Highlands, boasting two Munro summits – Sgorr nam Fiannaidh 967.7m and Meall Dearg 953m
In length the full ridge continues for 10 km from the Pap of Glencoe at the west to the eastern end at the Devil’s Staircase. The central section, some 2 km in length, is very rocky and the route along it requires scrambling ability. The slopes to each side are extremely dangerous, with steep grass and scree slopes hiding even steeper slopes which end in cliffs on both north and south sides of the ridge.
This 360 Route follows part of the Glen Coe Skyline race Route http://www.skylinescotland.com/glen-coe-skyline/. It starts at checkpoint 9 at Loch Achtriochtan climbing directly up the steep slope to the start of the ridge at Sgorr nam Fiannaidh. From here the 360 Route traverses the ridge eastwards before heading out to Sron Garbh, ending between checkpoints 12 and 13 on the race route.
